Lavender, one of Mother Nature's finest aromatics has been used for thousands of years dating back to 600 BC where it was sold by Greek traders in the Hyeres Islands off of France. Soon spreading to France, Italy and Spain ~ eventually finding its way to the United States by way of boat travelers in the 1600's.
The word Lavender stems from the Latin "lavar" meaning "to wash".
Throughout history Lavender was used by Royalty for bathing waters, scented soaps and perfumes. It was even added to wash water to scrub floors and to wash linens as well.
But the uses for Lavender are by far many more than simply the amazing aromatics of the herb and flower. The essence of Lavender is also used to heal the body, inside and out. Drink as a tea to soothe an upset tummy and ease menstral cramps. Apply to a burn or cut to soothe pain, clean and heal quickly with less or no scarring. Fight acne, diaper rash, psoriasus and eczema.
Lavender is nearly a "catch all" with the uses being nearly endless for this amazing gift of nature!
Most people have heard only of English Lavender or French Lavender, however there are actually over 200 varieties of Lavender ranging from the well known lavender and purple hues to beautiful florals in blues, pinks, yellow and white as well! The flowers upon the stems range from small and compact to tall and spread out. Even the aromas vary as well from spicy and tangy to clean and sweet.
